Young Authors Publish Works

Young Authors Camp 2009Hailing from Houlton to Hope, from Millinocket to Jonesboro, more than 55 aspiring writers in grades 3-12 are tapping their creativity and penning their thoughts at the annual Young Authors’ Camp taking place this week at the University of Maine.

Campers spent the week exploring different genres of writing, had the opportunity to develop proficiency in their academic and creative writing, and shared their creative pieces with peers, all in a relaxed atmosphere with their teachers.

The Maine Writing Project, established in 1998, is an affiliate of the National Writing Project. It is dedicated to the improvement of the teaching and learning of writing across the curriculum at all grade levels.

Education Advisor receives award

Andrea Hauck and Dominic VarneyAndrea Hauck of the College of Education & Human Development Advising Center recently received the Region One Excellence in Advising award from the National Association of Academic Advisors. Dominic Varney of UMaine’s Explorations Program was also a recipent. The awards were presented at an association meeting in New York.

Dr. Dianne Hoff named College of Education and Human Development Outstanding Teacher 2008-09

Dr. Dianne HoffDianne Hoff, associate professor of educational leadership, has been named the 2008-09 College of Education and Human Development Outstanding Teacher. Dianne is known for the dynamic relationships she builds with students, integrating her advising and teaching so that students feel supported beyond the classroom.
