Reading Recovery - Teacher Training and Continued Professional Development
- Reading Recovery teacher training follows an apprenticeship model which combines theory and practice as teachers actively work with four students during the day while taking a two-semester graduate level course.
- Each teacher is involved in designing individual literacy lessons for their students, daily assessment, collecting and analyzing data under the guidance of a Teacher Leader.
- Ongoing coaching sessions with the Teacher Leader provide further assistance to the new teacher in teaching for accelerated learning and processing of text.
- Trained teachers attend ongoing professional development sessions as well as receive continual coaching from peers and teacher leaders.
- Training class locations around the state alternate each year.
University of Maine Training Center for Reading Recovery
The University Training Center for Reading Recovery is located in Shibles Hall in the College of Education and Human Development.
University Trainer Mary Rosser offers leadership and professional development for the state team of Teacher Leaders. She alsos trains new Teacher Leaders in a two semester graduate course through the University.
