Current Events


The Maine Writers' Series begins on September 25, 2008, with Jeff Lewis reading from his latest novel, Adam the King. The series continues on October 28 with Martha Tod Dudman reading from her new novel, Black Olives. Both events take place at 4:00 PM in 402 Neville Hall.

The Society for Utopian Studies 33rd Annual Meeting will be held October 30 - November 2, 2008 in Portland, Maine. The meeting will feature plenary speaker Jason Read, as well as such UMaine luminaries as Naomi Jacobs (Chair of the English department and noted Utopian writer), Gisela Hoecherl-Alden, Laura Lindenfeld, Tony Brinkley, Jennifer Smith-Mayo, Howard Segal, Michael Grillo, Laurie Hicks, Michael Howard, Dusty Lavoie, Elizabeth Neiman, and our very own graduate students Jason Dodge and Mark Tabone.

The Maine Writers' Series continues on November 13. Lee Sharkey will read from her new collection of poetry A Darker, Sweeter String at 4:00 PM in 402 Neville Hall.

Recent Events

The National Poetry Foundation Conference - Poetry of the 1970s - was held June 11 - 15, 2008 at the University of Maine. Featured poets included Bruce Andrews, Rae Armantrout, Nicole Brossard, Clark Coolidge, Jayne Cortez, Ann Lauterbach, Bernadette Mayer, Tom Raworth and Fred Wah.


Previous Events

Assistant Professor David Kress, a new member of our creative writing faculty, has organized a "micro-conference on contemporary fiction writing," to take place on Wednesday, November 1, and Thursday, November 2, 2006. Click here for all the details.
