A native Rhode Islander, Amy Jirsa has a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After graduating, she headed out to Los Angeles to pursue a glamorous career in acting and waitressing. While in LA, she added to her academic resume by achieving a Master's degree in herbal medicine from the Australasian School of Natural Medicine. However, once she began skipping auditions in order to read and write, she realized she had to direct her attention elsewhere. She is thrilled to be attending the graduate program at UMO.

Amy is pursuing a creative writing degree in poetry, but also has interest in ecocriticism, especially in regards to Maine and Canadian literature. While in Nebraska, Amy was on staff as a submissions screener for the journal, Prairie Schooner. Her poetry has appeared in Watershed, Laurus, and Chantrelle's Notebook, among others.
