The University of Maine is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Coordinator – Athletic Grounds Opns. This is a full-time, fiscal year position.
Qualifications: Associate’s degree in related area, or equivalent combination of directly related vocational training and experience preferred; successful supervisory experience required; experience with maintenance and operation of athletic sports fields and indoor athletic facilities required; CPR/AED certification preferred at time of hire, or within 1 year of hire required; basic computer skills required; experience with custodial operations required; ability to lift up to 75 pounds; ability to travel normally, requiring a driver’s license; working knowledge of repair, maintenance and use of all maintenance and sports-related equipment is required.

TITLE: Assistant Coordinator of Athletic Grounds Operations
DEPT: Athletics

REPORTS TO: Assoc. A. D. Internal Operations
Purpose: The primary objective of this position is to assist in the oversight of the operation, management, maintenance and cleaning of indoor and outdoor facilities and large equipment. Additionally, plan the use of the indoor and outdoor facilities.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Oversee maintenance and repair of Athletic facilities.
Conduct and/or schedule necessary maintenance Athletics’ indoor and outdoor facilities.
Assist with the preventative maintenance schedule for all facilities and equipment.
Supervise student staff.
Maintain accurate records of all work done on facilities.
Assist Associate Athletic Director with department risk management including developing and implementing procedures and policies that minimize participant and employee injury, purchase appropriate signage and equipment, and participate in employee safety and risk management training.
Coordinate the set up of facilities for Athletic activities, events, programs and groups that rent the facilities.
Plan for the repair and improvement of Athletic facilities:
Implement indoor facility improvement plan.
Keep current on new technologies, products, and other improvements in athletic-related facilities.
Oversee maintenance, repair and improvement of equipment such as goals, nets, baskets, and basketball floor:
Maintain use and repair records for all equipment and vehicles.
Maintain inventory of equipment, including tools.
Recommend new / replacement purchases.
Oversee minor carpentry, plumbing and paint projects.
Serve as a liaison to Facilities Management, Property Management, Campus Recreation and other on and off campus entities related to Athletics facilities and equipment.
Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in related area, or equivalent combination of directly related vocational training and experience preferred.
Successful supervisory experience required.
Experience with maintenance and operation of athletic sports fields and indoor athletic facilities required.
CPR/AED certification preferred at time of hire, or within 1 year of hire required.
Basic computer skills required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience with custodial operations required.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Ability to travel normally, requiring a driver’s license.
Working knowledge of repair, maintenance and use of all maintenance and sports-related equipment is required.
Supervision: Student and temporary workers in grounds, rink maintenance and basketball floor crew. Duties include making hiring/termination recommendations, assigning work, approving time off.
Work Environment: Normal University of Maine business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. Work outside of regular hours (to include nights and weekends) will be necessary in order to complete the requirements of the position.
Position Type: Full-time, fiscal year position.
Schedule for Evaluation: In accordance with UMPSA agreement.
Salary Band - 1, Job Family – 10, Salary Range ($26,200 - $28,000)
