Salary range:    $40,000 - $45,000

The Institute for Molecular Biophysics (IMB) is a partnership between the University of Maine, The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine, and Maine Medical Center Research Institute in Scarborough, Maine. In an interdisciplinary approach to studying questions in biology, the IMB draws on the expertise of many fields of science and technology, including; biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, bioinformatics, and information technology.  This Postdoctoral Research position is immediately available and will work from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at UMaine as part of an NSF funded instrument development project. Specifically, the proposed instrument combines the capabilities of sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy with high-resolution fluorescence imaging. Project length contingent on external funding and job performance.

 

Requirements:
The chosen candidate must have a
PhD in a related technical, scientific or engineering discipline.  Extensive experience in an area of advanced imaging and/or spectroscopic methods such as sum frequency, fluorescence, infra-red, Raman, or other optical methods is required. Instrumental design experience strongly desired. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and with graduate and undergraduate students are necessary..
