What participants can
expect:
1. A full day:
The event will begin at 8:00 AM and end at 3:30
-
The MORNING PROGRAM
will include 5 DYNAMIC speakers from our Maine business and
education community. In 20-minute presentations they will frame
Maine-Based STEM opportunities and provoke us to consider the
dynamics for strengthening STEM for Maine students.
-
The Online
PRECONFERENCE NETWORKING and morning NETWORKING BREAKS will serve as
an incubator to surface ideas for the afternoon Unconference. What
do we want to learn about STEM? What do we do best in STEM? How can
we collaborate to advance the opportunities for Maine students and
support Maine STEM businesses? Throughout the morning participants
will sign up to host/lead afternoon Unconference sessions (45
minutes).
-
The AFTERNOON
SESSIONS will create time and space for participants to share STEM
ideas and host STEM conversations. There will be two series of
45-minute afternoon breakout sessions. The afternoon Unconference
will help us to meet the need for greater involvement of Summit
participants voiced at the 2010 Summit and will serve as an
inventory of ideas to advance Maine’s STEM education and STEM
economy.
2. Full participation:
Participants will be
asked to engage in conversations and share resources before the
conference, during the conference, and after the conference. All
participants will be invited to become a member of the 2012 STEM Summit
Blog and Resource Cache.
3. A unique
collection of exhibitors:
The 2012 STEM Summit will
showcase a sampling of mentorships/experiences that support Maine
students to enter the STEM pipeline.
What participants should know about an Unconference.
-
Participants are key
to the success. The Unconference sessions are decided the day of the
conference. Be prepared to participate. Bring your laptop, your
tablet, … your resources.
-
The Rule of Two Feet
- If at any time during the afternoon Unconference you find yourself
in a situation where you are neither learning nor contributing: Give
greetings, use your two feet, and join another session.
Responsibility resides with you.
