Location of Harkness Preserve:

A natural stand containing  American chestnut is located in Rockport.  Unfortunately, the blight is present.  

Coastal Mountains Land Trust owns the preserve plus over 900 acres of the mountainous region west of Penobscot Bay as permanent conservation land. These preserves include many of the natural highlights of this area, and are managed to protect wildlife habitat and biodiversity, while providing a natural laboratory for environmental education and opportunities for low-impact outdoor recreation. 

Please observe the following use restrictions on the preserves:

bullet

wheeled vehicles and horses are not allowed due to trail damage 

bullet

camping and fires are not allowed 

bullet

hunting of predators and trapping is forbidden 

bullet

removal of wildflowers and plants is not allowed 

bullet

certain preserves have specific restrictions- please consult the preserve entry signs for details
