INT 256 - Tree Pests and Disease

Alternate Lecture Recordings

(If you want to skip the intro, go directly to the recording file links)

If you are having problems viewing the lecture recordings, this web page offers an alternative method.

The lecture recordings are in two formats:  EXE and AVI.

The EXE files have names that end in ".exe" and will do the following:

  1. Load the TechSmith codec into your computer - this translates the video portion of the recording so that it will appear on your screen.

  2. Starts CamPlayer to play the recording.

These files are downloaded when the original version of the web page is used.

This alternate web page offers the "AVI" files, file names that end in ".avi".  To view these files, you will need to manually load the TechSmith codec into your computer.  If you work in a computer cluster, you may need to load the codec each time you want to view a recording.  On your personal computer, loading the codec once should be enough.

If computers in a cluster do not allow you to install the TechSmith codec, then you will need to have the cluster's supervisor help you in loading the software.

To install the codec, click on the link below, download the file (TSCC.exe).

TSCC.exe codec

Copy the file to a hard drive on your own computer or to a zip disc on a computer in a public cluster. Double click the file name (TSCC.exe) to install the codec.  When prompted, click "install".

Click on the link below to begin downloading a video file. You may get a prompt to open the file directly with a media player (MediaPlayer or RealPlayer).  Don't do this unless you have a high speed connection, like that on campus.  You can select the option to save the file to a hard drive on your own computer or to a zip disc on a computer in a public cluster.  This should only take a minute or two on campus.  Off campus, the download time could easily exceed 1 hour.

Instructions for viewing saved files:  To view the videos, you will need a PC with a Pentium grade processor of 120 mhz or faster, 65k colors or more for the monitor, an audio card, and video software You must have the Windows Media,  RealPlayer, or CamPlayer software on your computer. If you have Windows XP, then you need RealPlayer or Camplayer.

If you don't have the player, you can download the software:

RealPlayer - http://www.real.com/
(Note:  Be sure to find the “Free RealOne Player” link in the upper-right corner of the web page)

To play the videos, you will simply need to open the directory in which you saved the file and double click it's title. The video should automatically start after a few moments. To view the scroll bar on the player, make sure the "view" mode is on standard or compact. To get the largest picture, select "Full Screen" under the "View" menu in Windows Media Player.  To exit full screen mode, hit "esc".

If you can't get these recordings to work, see the instructor about getting a CD with the recordings and a special video player.
