The 2008 Teaching East Asia seminar series, offered by the National
Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) provides an exciting opportunity
for Maine educators to learn about history, culture, literature, and art of
China, Japan, and Korea from the state's top scholars of East Asian
studies.
The program begins on Thursday, Jan. 17th from 4:008:00. Participants
choose FIVE other sessions from the schedule. The sessions dates include
five Saturday dates ( Jan. 19, Feb 2, Mar. 1, Mar. 15, Apr. 5) and one
Friday (Feb. 29). Sessions run from 9:00-3:30. This year's program will be
held at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
*****The program is free and, as incentives to their participation, teachers
receive:
*****$500 in stipends;
*****$200 in books for their personal libraries
*****$300 in mini-grants to purchase curriculum materials for their
classrooms;
eligibility to apply for study tour opportunities
to China, Japan, or
Korea;
*****3 CEUs or optional university credits (university credit at an additional
charge)
