Graduate Courses in Spanish Abroad—Summer 2007

Course Description These courses are aimed at teachers of Spanish as a foreign language. They are specially designed to provide them with useful resources and materials for their teaching. Both courses include a practical reflection on the teaching of the Spanish language in bilingual contexts and on intercultural phenomena.
Contents [1] · Spanish language: An in-depth approach to the knowledge and use of the Spanish language through the immersion in the reality of the country, and a reflection on grammatical aspects and differences in usage determined by style, with a special emphasis on colloquial expressions. · Multicultural Spain and bilingual communities: An approach to the knowledge of the Spanish regional variety, characterized by its cross-cultural nature and the cohabitation of languages. The Basque Country is a good sample of this. The segment will be taught through seminars and discussions. · Workshop: Resources for the teaching of Spanish
Price
The costs of activities not included in the price or additional costs due to special accommodation and meal arrangements will be paid directly to the University of Deusto. Participants are responsible for their travel arrangements.
Complementary activities (included in the price) Welcome reception and orientation; two talks on cultural aspects of the Spanish society, guided visit to the Guggenheim-Bilbao Museum and the Old Quarter of the city, trips to festivals and traditional fairs in nearby picturesque towns, three one-day excursions to Pamplona, Plentzia & San Millán (in La Rioja) the birthplace of the Spanish language.
