at their schools, colleges or universities, and/or at the local, state,
regional or national level. |
WHAT
|
WHEN
 | State associations must receive nominations by December 1, 2007.
|
 | Associations must forward the dossier of one nominee to NECTFL by
January 4, 2008. |
 | The NECTFL Professional Development Committee will select the
Fellows at the January Board meeting and will convey its decisions to
the state associations by February 1, 2008. |
|
HOW
I. Funding:
NECTFL assumes responsibility for the costs of all aspects of the program as
described above. We strongly encourage state associations to provide
stipends for travel and other expenses, if at all possible.
II. Selection Procedures:
Eligible teachers may be nominated by their schools, colleges or
universities; or by local, state, regional or national organizations, for
the available fellowships. Application forms are
available on this web site and will be printed in state newsletters, on
web sites, and in the Conference Preview.
Completed applications will need to be sent to the respective state
associations, and each state association will pick one name from among those
nominated in their respective states to submit to NECTFL. The NECTFL
Professional Development Committee will select the Fellows from among those
candidates submitted by all the states.
Applications sent to or solicited by the state associations and then
forwarded to NECTFL must include:
 | a current resume or c.v. of no more than two pages; |
 | a letter of nomination of no more than two pages from the nominating
body documenting the teacher's leadership potential as evidenced by (1)
contributions to the profession at the local, state, regional or national
level; (2) community outreach; (3) effectiveness in teaching; |
 | a written commitment by the nominee containing a draft of a specific
plan of action (see
samples) that demonstrates leadership at the local,
regional, state or national level in the year following his/her selection
as a NECTFL Fellow, and to be presented at the following state and NECTFL
conferences. |
III Follow up:
Subsequent to attendance at the Northeast Conference, each Fellow will be
assigned to a NECTFL Board mentor and/or to a state association mentor.
Working with these mentors, Fellows will develop their plan of action in a
two-page document that they will submit to NECTFL and the state association
within six weeks of the Conference. The plan of action will be carried out
during the academic year following the Conference, with presentations on
implementing the plan made at both the state association meeting that fall
and the NECTFL Conference the following spring.
