The Maine Folklife Center Narrative Stage

with Maine Storytellers

from Our Story Bank Project

Maine is a storied place, and this year the Story Bank Stage offers a great variety of place narratives. You’ll hear about growing up in Allagash – what it means to be a basketmaker on Indian Island – how a woodsman becomes a chainsaw artist- what Hispanic life is like in Maine – and much more. Join us at the Story Bank Stage to listen to the histories, talents and voices of people from all over the state.

The Maine Folklife Center and Cultural Resources are collaborating to present and collect stories about people and their places. With funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maine Humanities Council, the Story Bank stage will feature community fieldworkers who have been working with other community members on capturing their community’s history and local culture.

Story Bank RV

Bring a friend or a loved one or come by yourself to the Story Bank RV parked near the Folk and Tradition Arts area and sign up for an interview.  At the RV, a facilitator will guide you through the interview process and handle all the technical aspects of the recording with the help of Salt Institute’s Rob Rosenthal. At the end of your 30-minute session, you will have an audio CD of your interview.

Story Bank is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts,
