Anne Robinson says she didn’t expect to work at Eastern for 22 years when she started in 1980.
“I was an older person going to full-time college when my husband
(who was not my husband at the time) gave my résumé to the personnel manager, Donna Holland,
and they happened to be looking for someone to cover three months in the accounting
department where a lady was going to go out and have surgery.
They hired me that day and I never went back to college.”
Instead, with just one semester left to complete in public accounting, Anne stayed on,
covering various jobs in Eastern’s accounting, purchasing, administration, and human
resources departments.
Eventually, Anne took a full-time, salaried position in human resources as Eastern’s employee
benefits services coordinator, where she worked as mediator between the company and mill
employees on insurance and workers’ compensation claims, and safety issues.
In addition, Anne gave regular hearing tests, and responded to accidents and injuries inside the mill.
“You’re thinking as you are running or walking fast to the incident, ‘Okay, this is what
I’m going to find. This is what I am going to have to do.’ I’ve taken men off the floor who
have been suffering heat exhaustion and I’ve gone right in the shower with them to hold them up.”
In 2002 Anne decided to leave the mill, after she and husband Gene, who also worked at
Eastern for 22 years, bought an RV business in Holden.
They recently sold the business and now enjoy running Holden Family Campground.
