Housing Update for Incoming First-Year Students for Fall 2013

Housing is not guaranteed for new, incoming students who complete their housing applications after May 5, 2013. Housing Services will continue to assign students based on the date they completed their housing applications as cancellations are received.

Beginning May 16, 2013, all new, incoming students who have completed a housing application may view their room assignments by logging in to myHousing with their MaineStreet logon and password.  Once logged in, click on the “check my assignment” button. If the button is not visible after you log in, then you have not yet been assigned. As the assignment process is ongoing, students who have not yet been assigned are advised to check again every few days.

Please note that roommate and room change requests are not accepted at this time due to space limitations.

More specific information will be shared at orientation sessions in June, and will also be sent by mail in early August. Here at UMaine we know that the first year of college can be difficult for many students. Whether you struggle with time management, navigating the university campus, making friends, or getting involved, we are here to help!  Our staff provides an additional layer of support for first-year students by helping to “fill the gaps” here at the university, thus making it easier for our students to find the resources and assistance that they need in order to be successful.

As part of the First Year Experience at UMaine, we require all first-year students to live on campus for their full first year.  Living on campus greatly increases students’ opportunities to get to know their peers, increases students’ access to faculty and staff, and it increases students’ access to clubs, organizations and campus events.  Our data also shows that students who live on campus their first year have a higher semester and cumulative GPA and also are much more likely to return to UMaine for their second year!

Check out our sidebar for more information about our programs, services, staff members, living on campus or resources for first-year students.

If you are a first-year student in need of help feel free to stop into the First Year Center, located on the ground floor of Androscoggin.  You can also call us to set up an appointment at 581-1420.

If you are a parent, faculty or staff member and you have a concern about a first-year student, please call the First Year Center at 581-1420 or contact Kelly Beers at kelly.beers@umit.maine.edu.
