Admission Procedures.  Prospective students will apply directly to the Program through the University of Maine Graduate School.  Top candidates will be brought to Maine for an on-site interview.  Prior to their arrival candidates will be asked to select specific faculty with whom they wish to interview.  During their visit, students tour the research centers and facilities and participate in small group discussion sessions with faculty and students.   All students admitted to the program receive stipends and tuition support.

Admissions Requirements.
Minimum standards for admission will be: 1) three strong letters of recommendation from qualified individuals in science or engineering; 2) a G.P.A. of 3.5; and 3) GRE scores totaling 1200 or greater for the combined verbal and quantitative sections and 4.5 or greater for the analytical writing section. Special consideration will be given to students with prior research experience. Exceptional letters of recommendation and significant prior research experience can compensate for weaknesses in G.P.A or GRE scores. Since this program is funded by an NSF training grant, students must either be a US citizen or a permanent resident.  Send application materials to:
