An examination of business opportunities in rebuilding post-war Iraq will highlight the agenda of the November 13th conference, "Doing Business in Iraq: the Private Sector." The conference will be held at Black Point Inn in Scarborough. It is co-sponsored by the College of Business, Public Policy and Health at the University of Maine, the College's William S. Cohen Center for International Policy and Commerce and the U.S.-Iraq Business Alliance.
The latter organization, which includes representation from some forty Fortune 500 companies, works to foster private sector investment in the reconstruction of Iraq and to promote trade between Iraq and the United States.
The conference will be the premier of the Business School's Global Focus Series, which will promote discussion of pertinent issues related to international business. |

"The time is right for major U.S. businesses to meet and determine ways in which the private sector can help Iraq rebuild while developing new business opportunities," says Mr. Dennis A. Sokol, Chairman of the American Hospital Group, and Chairman of the Executive Board of U.S.-Iraq Business Alliance.
"We envision a day that features the sharing expertise and experience in these areas and more," Dr. Innis, Dean of the College of Business, Public Policy and Health, says. "The opportunities are there and we are excited about taking a role in facilitating discussion that will serve to benefit the people of Iraq, the business climate in Iraq, and U.S. business interests well into the future. A prosperous Iraq with a strong business environment is critical to stability in the Middle East." |
