Graduate Student Takes Second in Paper Competition
Frederick Schwaner of Hebron, Maine, an Electrical and Computer Engineering doctoral student, won the second place best paper award at IEEE Regions 1 and 2 Joint Conference in Philadelphia on April 17, along with $500 cash prize.

Master of Liberal Arts and Sciences New Media student, Jennifer Smith-Mayo received the 2010 graduate level Maine Studies Research and Creativity Award

Master of Liberal Arts and Sciences New Media student, Jennifer Smith-Mayo has won the 2010 graduate level Maine Studies Research and Creativity Award for her paper and video titled "Maine: The State of Local Food." This excellent multimedia project explores the emergence of Maine's local food movement in the context of the state's agricultural history and current interest in small farms and organic food.
Jennifer will receive her award, including a $250 prize made possible by the University of Maine Foundation, at the Division of Lifelong Learning Honors Ceremony on April 26th.

Posted November 17th, 2009 - Ph.D. student Julie-Ann Scott recently won the Top Contributed Paper award for the Performance Studies Divison of the National Communication Association, for a paper titled "Cripping the Workspace: Physically Disabled Professionals Personal Narratives as Performance of Identity". Graduate students and faculty members can submit papers to appear on the top contributed paper panel at NCA. The top 4 of all submissions are chosen for presentation and the top paper receives a cash award. Julie-Ann's paper was accepted into this group of 4 and was subsequently chosen as the winner at the national meeting on November 12-15, 2009, in Chicapo. This is Julie-Ann's second time presenting on the contributed paper panel; she won the Top Debut Paper award for her a portion of her M.A. thesis in 2006.

Posted February 10th, 2009 - Gabriella D'Italia, a MFA Intermedia student has been selected for the first National Biennial Exhibition of MFA Students for her piece Gold Quilts. The Imaging Desire: Aegis First Biennial Graduate Student Exhibition will be shown in Gallery X at the Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville, KY from February 12th to March 21st.
