UMaine Proposes to Develop Seven New Online Masters Programs with Project Seven 24/7

Posted 9/20/10

In response to the University of Maine System's New Challenges/New Directions clarion call for significantly increasing the number of students enrolled in online degree programs, Project Seven 24/7 was proposed as The University of Maine's commitment to this goal and to its historic statewide, land-grant mission of outreach for the state of Maine.

As part of a strategic University of Maine investment plan, Project Seven 24/7 proposes seven new online masters programs developed to respond to both statewide needs and emerging priorities of the University of Maine.   It capitalizes on the quality of UMaine's faculty resources, the continuing growth and support services provided by UMaineOnLine, as well as the explosion of e-learning technologies that make "distance" or "place" irrelevant.  Moreover, because the University's research and graduate educational  enterprise is one of its major assets and one that distinguishes it among the UMS campuses, UMaine is positioned well to respond to new markets demanding graduate level education for professional advancement, licensure, and/or certification requirements in a variety of fields and for whom distance and time are barriers to professional development.
