Master of Arts in English Student, Rebecca Czlapinski Publishes New Edition of Gothic Novel
Rebecca Czlapinski, a Master of Arts student in the English Department, recently published a new edition of an an early Gothic novel. Pyrenean Banditti by Eleanor Sleath was originally published in 1811; the book recounts the trials and tribulations of Adelaide, possibly the daughter of a chevalier or possibly of a peasant. This 200th Anniversary Edition of Pyrenean Banditti reprints the unabridged text of the first edition of this engaging Gothic novel, which survives in only three known copies worldwide. Also included in this special edition is a new introduction by Czlapinski in which the details of the life of the mysterious author, Eleanor Sleath, are revealed for the first time.
