Graduate Student Recognition (Hooding) Ceremony Information
The Annual Graduate Student and Faculty Recognition Ceremony sponsored by the Office of the President, the Graduate Student Government (GSG), and the Graduate School will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 beginning at 4 pm in the Alfond Arena. Graduate students participating in the ceremony must report in regalia to the Field House by 3:15 pm on May 10th. Please note that the Graduate School is not responsible for any lost or stolen items left unattended in the Field House.
This ceremony will provide individual recognition for graduate students and their faculty advisors. We urge you to participate. Please complete the registration form here if you are a graduate student completing your degree in May and August 2013 or for December 2012 graduates. Please RSVP by April 29th.

Master's & Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) Students: Graduates must wear caps and gowns (regalia), and bring hoods to the ceremony. Caps, gowns, and hoods are available for purchase at the University Bookstore on campus. The cost of regalia for a Master’s/CAS student is $52.50. During the ceremony you will be hooded by the Dean of your College and a member of the Executive Committee of the Graduate Board.
Doctoral Students: Graduates must wear caps and gowns (regalia) to the ceremony. You will be hooded at Commencement, please do not bring your hood with you to the Recognition Ceremony. The cost to rent regalia is $194.25. Please contact Betty Campbell at 581-1735 or betty.campbell@umit.maine.edu in the Bookstore to request regalia. The University will be unable to respond to orders placed after the deadline of April 11th.
Eligibility for doctoral students to participate in any ceremonies (Recognition and Commencement) are as follows:
- May 2013 doctoral candidates that have successfully completed all degree requirements
- August 2013 doctoral candidates who have successfully defended their dissertation by April 26th
- December 2012 graduates
During the Recognition Ceremony, doctoral students will be honored by President Paul Ferguson and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost, Dr. Susan Hunter. Doctoral students are hooded at Commencement on Saturday, May 11th.
Reminder: August candidates participating in May Commencement must apply to graduate for August 2013 when submitting the Application for Degree within MaineStreet.
Guests should arrive at the Alfond Arena by 3:30 pm for early seating. Seating charts will be posted throughout the arena for assistance. This is an open seating event and does not require tickets. Ushers will be available if your guests have any questions while in the Alfond Arena.

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception with light refreshments for you and your guests will be held in the Field House. Both events are free of charge.
