IDENTIFY AND SUMMARIZE PASTURE RESEARCH AND EXTENSION RESOURCES IN THE NORTHEAST Project Number: 1902-13210-001-01G Research Objectives: 1) Identify projects, institutions, and resources (personnel, facilities, funding, etc.) being used in pasture management research and extension in the Northeast; 2) survey and evaluate relevant data on pasture management activities and resources within CRIS, Cooperative Extension, NRCS, USDA-ARS, and special programs such as SARE; 3) categorize and summarize the identified activities and resources by problem, discipline, keyword, supporting institution, etc.; 4) develop and produce a publication. Approach: Pasture-related research and technology development and transfer activities Will be identified throughout the NE, and specific data collected for analysis. Where possible, detailed information will be directly accessed, emphasizing the use of centralized data bases such as CRIS. Where necessary, supporting state and federal agencies will be contacted to provide information. The detailed data will be categorized, organized, and summarized by key criteria, and otherwise characterized to achieve two major goals: 1) provide the critical input to a critical research and extension planning assessment to be carried out by the NE Pasture Research and Extension Consortium at their 1998 workshop and annual meeting, and 2) to provide a detailed census, description, and index of ongoing work for use by NE research scientists, extension personnel, and advanced producers engaged in pasture activities. The data and summary will be presented at the Consortium Workshop and published. Progress: Project just started 9/25/97. No progress to report. Publications: No publications reported this period
