Greek Life has existed at the
University of Maine since 1874.
The presence of Greeks still
exists strongly today with about
730
students participating in one of
the 15 men’s fraternities or 7
women’s sororities.
Approximately 9.29% of University
of Maine undergraduates are
members of Greek letter
organizations.
Greek Life provides essential skills and opportunities
to develop outside of the classroom.
Greek organizations promote and provide
academic support for their members,
leadership development, an opportunity
to develop life-long friendships,
service to the community, intramural
athletic competition and an opportunity
to become highly involved here at the
University of Maine.
The Greek Life Office assumes the advisory function of
providing motivation and direction for
all recognized fraternities and
sororities, develops programming to
enhance personal growth, health and
safety, chapter management, recruitment,
new member programs, leadership,
scholarship, friendship, and service to
the University of Maine and the
surrounding communities, and serves as a
resource center and focal point for all
Greek related activities and events. |
