Since 1909, the North-American
Interfraternity Conference has
been serving the men's college
fraternity community in Canada
and the United States. Through
66 member fraternities, the NIC
represents almost 4.5 million
alumni and 400,000 college
students in over 5,500 chapters
on more than 800 college
campuses. The NIC advocates the
needs of fraternities through
the enrichment of the Greek
experience, advancement and
growth of the fraternities and
enhancement of the educational
mission of the host
institutions.
The Interfraternity Council (IFC)
is the governing board for the
fourteen national fraternities
at The University of Maine. The
Interfraternity Council consists
of four elected executive
officers, and an IFC Delegate from
each chapter. The goals of the IFC
are to:
-
Encourage academic success
-
Foster communication and
cooperation between
fraternities
-
Provide educational
opportunities to cultivate
leadership development,
personal growth, and
responsible decision making
skills
-
To work closely with the
Panhellenic Association to
further improve the Greek
community as a whole
-
Encourage and respect the
personal choices and
property of others
-
Protect the health and
safety of all members of the
community
