Sigma Nu was founded at the Virginia Military Institute on January 1, 1869. It was founded by James F. Hopkins, James M. Riley, and Greenfield Quarles. From that date to the present this fraternity has flourished to over 180 chapters nationwide.
This Chapter was de-recognized by the University during the 2003-2004 school year. This was the first de-recognition since our founding on campus in 1913. Since our re-recognition in the spring of 2005 the Delta Nu chapter has been working diligently to increase our numbers and our presence on campus and around the community.
Sigma Nu National Fraternity, overlooking the placid Stillwater river, was established at the University of Maine in 1913. The three story building is capable of housing up to 22 fraternity brothers and is home to water slides in the summer and the fantastic sledding during the winter months. Sigma Nu is proud to be one of the oldest fraternities on campus currently celebrating 95 years, having instilled over twelve hundred members with the ideals and beliefs that Sigma Nu was founded on. |
