Cooperative Education
Students at the
University of Maine may participate in a program
of Cooperative Education, Internships, Field
Experience, or Service Learning for academic
credit on a full-time basis during the semester
or summer, or on a part-time basis while taking
courses on campus. All programs are sponsored by
a faculty coordinator in the student's major
academic department and may be designed by the
student and/or a participating employer.
Cooperative
Education provides students with the opportunity
to apply classroom knowledge to a practical
career-related work experience. Available in most
academic departments, these work/learning
positions usually involve compensation. Students
work directly with practitioners in their chosen
career field and gain skills and experience which
is highly valued by prospective employers.
Students should
plan well in advance and seek assistance at the
Career Center, 3rd floor,
Memorial Union. For
additional information, call 581-1359.
