My research focuses on the connections
between gender and nation-building in Brazil from the Paraguayan War,
1865-1870, to the country's first republican constitution, 1891. I am
most interested in the themes of female patriotism and women's
participation in the public sphere. Currently, I am working on a
book manuscript tentatively titled Delicate Citizenship - Gender and
Nationbuilding in Brazil, 1865-1891.
