- Undergraduate students at least 17 years of age, matriculated in a degree program, and enrolled for a minimum of nine credit hours during the current semester
- Graduate students enrolled in University of Maine coursework

When can I move in?
Spring Semester 2010
- Residence halls open for all students on Sunday, January 10, 2010
- Current residents in break housing halls (DTAV/Patch, Knox, Stodder and York) may remain in residence during the semester break.

How do I apply for housing?
Newly admitted students for Spring 2010:
- Confirming your enrollment with the Office of Admissions is the first step in applying for on-campus housing at the University of Maine. Once you have confirmed your enrollment with the University of Maine, you will receive instructions for completing the online housing application.
Newly admitted students for Fall 2010:
- Confirming your enrollment with the Office of Admissions is the first step in applying for on-campus housing at the University of Maine. Once you have confirmed your enrollment with the University of Maine, you will receive instructions for completing the online housing application. Please note that incoming students who confirm their enrollment and apply for housing after May 31st may be placed on a wait list for housing.

How are room assignments made?
- First year students - assigned to First Year Residential Experience halls- FYRE
- Returning students - assignments made based on space availability to upperclass halls; preferences from application; generally follows first-received, first-assigned basis
- All halls SMOKE-FREE; smokers paired together (information obtained from housing application)
- Chem-free options available
- All halls offer coed living with single gender sections available upon request
- Males: *Androscoggin, Aroostook, *Cumberland, *Gannett, Kennebec, Penobscot, and Stodder
- Female: *Androscoggin, *Cumberland, *Gannett, Hancock, and Penobscot Halls.

Students may change their meal plans once during the first six weeks of each semester.

Yes, as long as
- Mutual requests received from both parties
- Both online applications received in reasonable proximity to each other
- Every effort will be made to honor roommate requests
- Requests or specific assignments are not guaranteed

May I change room/roommates?
Yes, except during a Room Freeze (generally the first and last two weeks of classes)

If my roommate moves out, may I keep the room to myself?
This is not an option as long as there are students waiting for a room assignment. If all students are assigned and there is a space in your double room, you will be subject to a higher room rate if you do not consolidate with another student. You may request this option once it has determined space is available.

Are single rooms available?
There are a limited number of single rooms in most residence halls
- Small singles are located in
- Aroostook
- Cumberland
- Estabrooke
- Gannett
- Kennebec
- Oak
- Penobscot
- Singles assigned on a first-received, first assigned basis with priority given to returning students at Room Sign-up in April
- Room rates are higher for small single room occupancy, single occupancy, or occupying a double room without a roommate
- Knox, Oxford and Somerset do not have single rooms

What is the difference between residence halls that close for semester/spring break and continuous housing?
- All halls remain open during October break and Thanksgiving break
- Semester & Spring Break - halls that close during semester/spring breaks

- Students who live in these halls will not have access from
- 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 until 10:00 a.m. Sunday, January 10, 2010 and from 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2010 - until 10 a.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010.
- Continuous Housing Halls do not close for semester/spring breaks.
- DTAV/Patch Hall - eligible upperclass students
- Knox - first-year students
- Stodder - graduate student rooms only
- York - upperclass students

May I cancel my room assignment before moving in? May I move out of my residence hall prior to the end of the academic year?
- Once a room assignment is made, room cancellation fees are in effect
- The 2009-2010 Room and Board License is for the ENTIRE academic year or the remainder of academic year if assigned after opening in the fall
- Students who cancel before July 15, 2009 will be charged a room cancellation fee of $150.00
- Students who cancel from July 15, 2009 until August 28, 2009 will be charged a room cancellation fee of $500.00

May I have a car on campus?
Yes, students may have cars on campus, although a car is not necessary.
- A parking decal is required for all cars on campus
- Decals are available at the Student Service Center in the Memorial Union
- All lots are designated either for residents, commuters, and faculty/staff
- Parking is not available for all decals in all lots
- The 'Bat' bus is free with your MaineCard and offers service between Orono, Old Town, Brewer, and Bangor
- Black Bear Orono Express provides free transportation from campus to downtown Orono

Are there banking services on campus?
Yes, there is a full-service Credit Union and two ATM machines on campus. You may want to check with your local bank to see if they have a branch in the Orono-Old Town area.
