Residence Halls
The University of Maine has 18 residence halls representing a variety of architectural styles, sizes and ages. The newest hall opened in January 2003 and the oldest opened in 1916. Sizes range from 36 to 290 residents with an average size of 150 residents per building.
Seven (7) residential halls house special populations
- Balentine, Colvin and Penobscot Hall house Honors College students.
Colvin Hall will undergo renovations during fall semester 2008. Honor students will be housed on the 4th floor of Penobscot for fall 2008. It is anticipated that these students will move into Colvin at the end of semester break when renovations are complete. We encourage first year Honor students to apply.
- Estabrooke houses undergraduate students in single rooms with a limited number of double rooms.
- Oak Hall houses upperclass students in single rooms.
- Doris Twitchell Allen Village and Patch Hall houses upperclass students in suites.
- Stodder Hall houses graduate students and non-traditional students.

The First Year Residence Experience (FYRE) students are housed in three different residential complexes and supervised by a Community Coordinator.

- Residents share single gender bath facilities located on each floor or section. The number of bathrooms varies in proportion to the number of residents who share them.
- Remain open during October and Thanksgiving breaks.
Semester and Spring Breaks
Students who reside in halls that close during semester and spring breaks will not have access to the their residence halls during
- Semester Break - starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2009 through 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2009
- Spring Break - starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009 through 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2009

Chem Free Living
The Choice House was designed by students who wish to live in an academic environment without the presence of chemicals, i.e. alcohol, illegal drugs. This is a student initiated and monitored lifestyle choice. Aroostook and Gannett Halls are the Choice House for Chem Free Living.
