Benefits for New Dependents

New dependents may be added to your health plan within 31 days after a Family Status Change. A new spouse will be covered the first of the month after the marriage. A newborn is covered from birth. Newly adopted and foster children may also be covered under your health plan.

There is life insurance available for spouses and dependent children. A spouse may have $10,000 to $50,000 worth of life insurance. This coverage must be less than half the total of basic and supplemental life insurance carried by the employee.

Dependent children may be covered by $5000 or $10,000 worth of life insurance.

Supplemental Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance is available for family members and can be added within 31 days of a family status change.

A new spouse may be added to your dental plan. Remember that when you add one eligible dependent, all must be covered.

Domestic partners may be added to your benefit programs within 31 days of new eligibility (six months of residing together). University policy requires completion and submission of a notarized Affidavit with supporting documentation for financial interdependence. Contact the Employee Health, Benefits, and Payroll office at 581-2360 for more information. Eligible domestic partners may be eligible for health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, and tuition waivers.
