Disability
Long Term Disability
The University of Maine System is proud to offer a Long Term Disability
(LTD) plan to eligible employees. Long term disability is defined as a
severe illness or injury that prevents you from working at all or
prevents you from working full-time, for a period of six months or
longer.
The purpose of this plan is to protect you and your family from complete
loss of income should you suffer a long term disability. For
complete Information please see: Guide to Long Term Disability and
Long Term Disability (PDF) available on the
University of
Maine System website.
Short Term Disability
The short term disability plan
provides financial protection by paying a portion of your income while
you are disabled. The amount you receive is based on a percentage of
your base earnings before your disability began. In some cases, you can
receive disability payments even if you work while you are disabled.
Benefits start after the waiting (elimination) period. For complete information
please refer to your bargaining agreement,
Short Term Disability AFUM (PDF) or
Short Term Disability UMS (PDF) available on the
University of
Maine System website.
