University of Maine Gold Card Policy
The University of Maine Gold Card is a special privilege for those retirees who have worked at the University for all or most of their professional careers. Former employees may apply for the Gold Card by completing an application available from either the President’s Office or the Office of Human Resources. The application may also be found on line at: www.umaine.edu/hr/forms/goldcard.pdf.
Eligibility Criteria
Recipients must be at least 55 years of age and have worked at least 25 years for the University of Maine in a full-time capacity (continuous service is not required). If an employee is granted long term disability status after 25 years of full time University employment, he or she becomes eligible for the Gold Card at age 55. All former faculty and staff members who are granted emeriti status are also eligible. The Gold Card is not transferable; spouses and partners of deceased retirees are not eligible for the Gold Card.
Gold Card Privileges
The Gold Card offers a free parking permit, use of Fogler Library, visits to the Planetarium, all public lectures on campus, and performances by the School of Performing Arts. The Gold Card entitles the holder to one “20-Use Athletic Facilities Pass” per year, which may be used for public skating at the Alfond Arena, public swimming at the Wallace Pool, and the use of the Gym Facilities/Fitness Center/Field House. Gold Card holders are also able to attend, free of charge, up to six athletic events OR up to four performances (excluding the Gala and other special events) at the Maine Center for the Arts each year.
