Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment
Eligible employees are covered under the basic life insurance plan provided by the University. The basic coverage provides life insurance in the amount of the base salary, rounded upward to the next $1000 if an uneven thousand. There is an equivalent amount in addition in the event of Accidental Death and Dismemberment.
Supplemental life insurance at 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, and 5X the base salary is available, but proof of good health may be required. Spousal and Domestic Partner life insurance is available in $10,000 increments to a maximum of $50,000. The most spousal life insurance that may be carried is no more than ½ the total of basic and supplemental life insurance carried by the employee.
Life insurance on dependent children is available for coverage levels of $5000 or $10,000.
Supplemental Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance is available on the employee and the family. Coverage is available in $10,000 increments up to $350,000 (but no more than 10X the base salary). Coverage reductions apply to a spouse and children when family coverage is selected.
Changes in life insurance coverage may be made at Open Enrollment or after a family status change.
