Campus Recreation
Thad Dwyer is a well known fixture in the field of Campus Recreation, both at the University of Maine and in our profession. Whether speaking with students on campus or talking with colleagues at professional conferences, people know and respect Thad. His dedication to engaging students and community members through participation in intramural sports is outstanding. Thad’s on-going passion and commitment for his work is truly remarkable; after 25 years he still shows up early, stays late, comes in on weekends and during his off-time to check in on his programs. He truly cares about our students and goes out of his way to schedule games and events so student involvement is maximized. He has been very involved on University and national committees, has launched many highly qualified students into their careers in recreation, and is a mentor and friend to people in Campus Recreation throughout the country. People don’t only know Thad; they love him! He’s funny, encouraging, engaging and supportive - he can make you believe you can run a marathon if you want to, even if you’ve never run a mile in your life!
Thad is a dedicated husband and parent to four children with his wife Debbie. They log many travel miles watching their talented kids participate in swim meets, basketball games and other athletic events. Thad is an avid athlete himself! Whether he’s running, skiing, playing racquetball or shooting hoops, Thad’s out there every day living his life with the same passion and commitment he brings to his work.
Thank you, Thad, for your 25 years of dedicated service to the University of Maine, to Campus Recreation, our community and most importantly, our students. Your work has made a difference here!
