Robert Franzosa
Professor of Mathematics

Over the past 25 years, Bob Franzosa has more than proved himself as a scholar and educator.  Bob is well known in the mathematics community through numerous research publications in differential equations, algebraic topology, point set topology and its application to geographic information systems. Indeed, one of Bob's papers has become a standard reference in the GIS research literature.  His most recent endeavor was the publication of a graduate level text entitled "Introduction to Topology, Pure and Applied".

In 2003, Bob was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching touting Bob's ability in the classroom and at all levels of instruction.  He is also well known in the education community in the State of Maine through his summer academies and dinner meetings for high school teachers.

Finally, Bob is a "Dead Head"--he has published a folklore book describing the origin and history of the phrase "Grateful Dead".

Bob, thank you for your contributions and service to the University over these past 25 years.
