Polly Moutevelis-Burgess
Director, Employee Assistance Program
Dr. Polly Moutevelis-Burgess is an extremely dedicated and talented professional. Her work for the past twenty-five years has positively affected the lives of many staff and faculty at the University of Maine. Polly exemplifies the highest ethical standards in her profession as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Employee Assistance Professional, National Certified Counselor, and trained mediator. Polly has a high attention to quality, with her program achieving high rankings for client satisfaction and appreciation. Polly is called on often to work in uncomfortable situations; situations with conflict, tragedy, and confusion. She brings wisdom in her approach, is a great listener and counselor, and consistently helps individuals and organizations to find positive solutions and resolutions. Polly is always there to assist no matter what time of day and has responded to many emergency situations with great attention, skill, and ability.
Polly has made numerous presentations over the years at national conferences in the EAP and counseling fields, and has served in many other leadership capacities within her field.
In her role within the Employee Assistance Program, Polly provides counsel and advice through direct client contact, the EAP newsletter, through many lunch and learn programs, and through attention to areas of importance to individual health and wellness. When asked, Polly wholeheartedly embraced taking on leadership for physical wellness to compliment her work on mental and spiritual health. Her enthusiasm and energy have worked to promote a very active program for both EAP and employee wellness. Polly has extended her excellence by providing support services to employees at the Jackson Lab, the Town of Veazie, and most currently the University Credit Union. The demand for services is testimony to Polly’s excellence and ability to coordinate a professional delivery system that far exceeds the usage provided by other providers in the area of EAP. Add to this her efforts on wellness and disease prevention, tobacco cessation, work to provide financial assistance through a loan program for employees, and her work nationally and regionally, Polly reflects the very best of U Maine.
Polly, we thank you for all that you consistently do. We thank you for your counsel, your work ethic, and high standards of performance. Thank you for your many years of wonderful and meaningful service to the University and community. Thank you for caring and taking the time to intervene and to help. Thank you for always being there for us when we need you.
