Jacqueline Hunter
Scientific Technician II, School of Marine Sciences
Jacqueline Hunter has dedicated 45 years of service to the University of Maine first working for the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, and since 1996, working for the School of Marine Sciences as a scientific technician II at the Aquaculture Research Center. Jacque lives the motto that “it is better to give than receive”. Jacque is a dedicated, hard working employee. When the Aquaculture Research Center was in its infant stages, there were no ready –made facilities and no facility manager, like there is today. This did not stop Jacque, though, because if we didn’t have it, she built it herself; there is nothing this woman cannot build. And talking about going above and beyond the call of duty… things would break down left and right and she would come in during the middle of the night to take care of them, to make sure that the experiments were not jeopardized. She did this, without complaint, for quite some time until the University hired a full-time manager.
Her dedication, even after all of these years, is truly outstanding. She does her work with a cheery outlook and never complains. She is the kind of person that always goes the extra mile to do a good job and that is a quality you do not always get in a person day after day, year after year. She always asks, “What can I do for you?” and is always there, dependable, with a smile on her face, happy to lend a hand…nights, weekends, holidays…whatever it takes.
As one fellow employee mentioned, “Jacque is way better than the U.S. Postal Service. She delivers in any situation, even during the holidays.” Her supervisor, Linda Kling said, “I taught Jacque “science”, but Jacque has taught me more than what you can learn in a textbook. She has taught me life lessons.”
Jacque, thank you for your 45 years of outstanding service to the University of Maine.
