Betsy Enright
Coordinator of Children and Youth
Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies
Betsy Enright is a gifted educator and valued colleague. She joined the University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies as a research associate in 1995. She became the CCIDS Inclusive Education Coordinator in 2002 and brought her leadership and expertise to a wide range of inclusive education initiatives until her retirement in December 2007. As Inclusive Education Coordinator, Betsy provided vision, leadership, and a collegial approach to working with her team of talented research associates. She coordinated several federal and state funded research, professional development, and technical assistance projects related to the study and implementation of inclusive educational practices in Maine.
Betsy is well respected among her CCIDS colleagues, throughout the Maine educational community, and among national colleagues in the field of inclusive education. Early on in her introduction to the national consortium for inclusive education, Betsy’s energy, enthusiasm, and thoughtful analysis of national trends and “lessons learned” brought her, and the work of her CCIDS colleagues, credibility and recognition. Her easy way and professional manner always reflected well on CCIDS and the University.
While her retirement provides Betsy the time she needs to attend to other aspects of her life and to spend more time with her family---particularly with her husband Dick---she leaves behind colleagues who continue to miss her presence and contributions. However, she also leaves behind a legacy of professional accomplishments that will continue to make a difference in the lives of students with disabilities and their families throughout Maine and the nation. Betsy, we all wish you well and know that you will bring that same enthusiasm and commitment to whatever you decide to do in the future.
