Shirley Hager
Extension Educator,
Associate Extension Professor,
Program Administrator
Cooperative Extension

Shirley Hager began her University of Maine Cooperative Extension career in 1991 as an Educator in the Androscoggin-Sagadahoc County Extension Office.

Perhaps Shirley’s greatest accomplishment has been her leadership of the 4-H Youth Development program.  She worked with staff to invite a USDA Cooperative State Research Education and Extension Service review of the program in 2004-05.  She followed up the recommendations of the review team by leading a strategic planning effort that has resulted in a restructuring of 4-H leadership, communication structures and program initiatives.  This restructuring has resulted in new programs, additional resources, stronger connections with UMaine faculty and staff across the campus, and a stronger presence for Maine 4-H nationally.

For the past seven years, she has pursued an interest in the concepts of teacher formation and renewal, which she has integrated in various ways into her administrative roles, and plans to pursue upon her retirement from the University.

Shirley, for all your accomplishments and contributions to the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, thank you.  Best wishes on your retirement.
