Julie Mingo
Cook III
Children’s Center
The Children’s Center is very pleased to join the University of Maine in recognizing Julie Mingo for her fifteen years of service, as well as congratulating her in her retirement.
Julie was a dedicated worker, going above and beyond on a daily basis. She started each week with a trip to the local supermarket to purchase food items needed to prepare lunches for at least seventy-nine children plus staff, as well as provide the five programs within the Children’s Center with breakfast and snack items. Julie was a “one-person” show; from inventory clerk to grocery shopper to dish washer to meal deliverer as well as janitor of her minuscule kitchen. She did it all and she did it well!
When asked what she liked best about her job, her reply was “the children.” Even though Julie was not directly involved with the day-to-day care of the children, she enjoyed seeing them get excited when she delivered lunch to their program each day. She never knew if it was the knowledge that lunch would be served shortly or if it was her smiling face they looked forward to seeing.
Since her retirement in November 2007, Julie has traveled to Greece as a chaperon with her granddaughter’s class trip. She is hoping to participate in many more events with her many grandchildren. She is also looking forward to spending time boating with her husband this summer. Julie looks forward to the times when her family is all together and her house is full. These special events will give her the opportunity to again cook for a crowd!
For everything you did on behalf of the University, Julie, thank you and best wishes in retirement.
