Deborah J. Seymour
Administrative Assistant I
Climate Change Institute
Debbie Seymour first joined the University of Maine in 1988 as part of the Temporary Personnel Pool. She quickly was hired by what was then Residential Life. The early 1990’s were tough financial times for the University of Maine and Debbie’s position was impacted. Her talents and work ethic were clearly evident, however, and she was hired by the Center for Community Inclusion.
For the past twelve years Debbie has been a valuable member of the Climate Change Institute (formerly the Institute of Quaternary Studies) through several major transitions in the Institute, most notably its evolution from a small number of individuals to a group of more than 70 faculty/staff/students.
In 1999 Debbie was nominated for the Classified Employee Award by her then supervisor Nancy Kealiher for her dedication and willingness to go above and beyond her job expectations.
Each day she brought to the office her warmth and her desire to make newcomers welcome. She made foreign visitors and students feel at home and she always added her special touches to meetings and field trips. The Institute will miss her. Debbie is a devoted grandmother and we know that she will enjoy having more time with her family. She and her husband, Gene, love to camp and will no doubt have more time to enjoy Maine’s beauty. The Institute looks forward to hearing about Debbie’s adventures with family and friends.
Debbie, thank you for your hard work and service on behalf of the University of Maine. Best wishes on your retirement.
