Andrea Phelan
Clinical Laboratory Assistant
Cutler Health Center

Andrea Phelan has served the Cutler Health Center at the University of Maine for more than 19 years. She began her University career in the clinical laboratory of Cutler Health Center as a part-time Clerk /Phlebotomist. In 1989 she moved to a full-time position as a Medical Assistant assigned to the laboratory area within Cutler. In this position Andrea performed phlebotomy work; routine testing of specimens; recording patient and testing information; prepared specimens for external laboratories and maintained the inventory of the laboratory supplies. In 1993 she was promoted to Clinical Laboratory Assistant which reflected her willingness to assume new duties and tasks, Andrea has been dedicated to making the Health Center successful.

Andrea was a responsible, conscientious employee, maintaining high standards of accuracy and genuine concern for her patients. She created a relaxed, friendly environment and exercised good judgment dealing with patients, especially those exhibiting apprehension about having their blood drawn. She had a special knack of calming her patients’ anxieties to make an uncomfortable situation of a needle stick seem painless.

Andrea has received many compliments over her tenure from her patients in regards to her gentle approach and positive interaction making them comfortable and supported while under her care.

These are just a few of the many contributions that Andrea has made for the University of Maine over the past 19 years. We would like to wish her all the best in her retirement and thank her for all the years of service to the University’s students and staff.
