DR. PHYLLIS BRAZEE
Associate Professor of Education
Director Peace Studies Program
College of Education & Human Development

Dr. Phyllis Brazee was chosen as the College of Education and Human Development’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year for 2007-2008.  This is one of many examples of the ways Phyllis has positively impacted students and programs over her twenty-five years of dedicated service to the University.

Dr. Brazee has been as passionate about and committed to the campus Peace Studies Program as she has been to her teaching.  Under her direction the program has flourished.  She has coordinated the PAX courses, which enroll over 250 annually, supervised faculty members, overseen the interdisciplinary minor, supervised financial aspects of the program and any grants, and brought national scholars to the campus.

Her service record is extensive.  Committees and organizations to which she has contributed include the Maine Department of Education’s Gender Equity Task Force, the College Curriculum Committee, the Student Education Association of Maine, The Faculty Senate, the Safe Campus Task Force and the list goes on!

Phyllis lives her beliefs.  She has been very purposeful with her reading and her own continuous education.  She has brought aspects of diversity alive in her classes and influenced so many other classes under her leadership.  Over twenty-five years she has had an exceptional influence on the thinking of students.  Her colleagues have experienced her positive approach to any task and a smile that is a mile wide, continuous and so very genuine.  Thank you for everything Dr. Brazee!
