Avis Cote has served the University of Maine Health Information Management Office of Cutler Health Center for more than 13 years. In this position Avis tirelessly audited, filed, updated and released patient medical records. She was a dependably reliable and efficient employee for the Health Center. She supported both the clinical staff and students in maintaining complete medical files. She obtained outside medical, laboratory and diagnostic testing reports for review and signature by the provider. This is a tedious and time consuming task, yet essential to maintaining consistency, completeness and accuracy of all medical records.

Avis had a special relationship with the many student employees of Cutler Health Center. She guided them through their University experience, and made the ups and downs less overwhelming by providing a sympathetic ear. Avis would support, listen and at times provide a little motivational push to help them work through their daily grind. It is said, a measure of a great leader is the number of protégés that return over the years to stay in touch with their mentor, Avis is a great leader.

Avis was the matriarch of the Health Center. She organized numerous staff gatherings to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and personal accomplishments. For this her coworkers are thankful to her for the many fond memories they shared together over the years.

These are just a few of the many contributions that Avis has made for the University of Maine during her time here. We would like to wish her all the best in her retirement and thank her for all the years of service to the University’s students, parents and staff.
