Nancy Coverstone
Extension Educator, Associate Extension Professor
Cooperative Extension
Since her arrival in 29 years ago, Maine citizens along with the forests, fields and coast and the flora and fauna around us have captured Nancy’s heart and soul and have benefited from her love of learning and teaching.
Nancy’s philosophy and spirit of teaching people how to live in wise relationship to the landscape and species we share, lives on in her life and work. Nancy is a gifted educator who teaches us that everything is connected to everything. And so it has been with Nancy’s work in communities where she has collaborated with numerous individuals and community groups to teach sustainable ways for living in right relationship with the earth.
Some of Nancy’s significant achievements include her work with coastal harbormasters, shellfish committees and Department of Marine Resources biologists to empower local citizens in the wise management of their marine and shellfish resources. She has worked tirelessly with a host of community forestry committees in the Lewiston-Auburn area and in Bath and the Merrymeeting Bay to teach and guide groups how to work effectively to steward their natural resources.
In the last 6 years Nancy has been a pioneer in Extension by developing the first formal working relationship in the United States between Cooperative Extension and the National Wildlife Federation. This partnership has resulted in the development and offering of Maine’s first Wildlife Habitats series that brings together individuals from across southern Maine who are committed to deepening their knowledge and love of Maine’s wildlife and sharing that knowledge with neighbors and communities as Extension volunteers.
Thank you Nancy for your years of service and sincere best wishes on your retirement.
