Nathan Emerson
Assistant Electrical and Power Distribution Supervisor
Facilities Management
Nate Emerson began his career 35 years ago as a Grounds Shop Laborer. Because of his electrical training and experience in the military, Nate joined the Electrician Apprentice program within the refrigeration division in the Electrical Shop.
Under Will Foss and, later Skip Nadeau, Nate developed his refrigeration and air conditioning skills and performed appliance and kitchen equipment repair work. He completed his training in 1981 as a Refrigeration Mechanic.
Nate’s curiosity and interest drew him to electrical construction and maintenance work and in 1984 he moved into the Electrical Shop. Throughout the 1980’s he honed his electrical skills with renovation projects and learned how to operate, maintain and repair the University’s 5 kv (kilovolt) underground distribution system. His knowledge and quick reflexes averted what could have been a great tragedy in 1986 when an electrical fire broke out in the stands during a hockey game!
Nate is now the Assistant Electrical and Power Distribution Supervisor. With his broad and varied experience he is a real asset to the University of Maine. Nate always offers a helping hand. In fact, he has numerous letters of appreciation from people across the University attesting to his contributions.
Nate enjoys gardening, especially his raspberries! He likes spending time with his grandchildren and family. Every November, he is either out hunting or at his camp on Chemo Pond.
Thank you, Nate, for your 35 years of dedicated service to the University of Maine!
