The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is proud of the outstanding service provided by Janice Gomm over the last 25 years.
Janice came to work for the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department in 1983. She had previously worked for the College of Education for eight years before taking a three year break from University employment. An overall total of 33 years years of University of Maine employment! She received the "Outstanding Classified Employee Award" in 2004 for her significant contributions to the department, the University, and the community.
Janice excels in her duties as an Administrative Assistant. She manages budgets, processes personnel actions for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students; coordinates course offerings; and prepares departmental activities. In addition, Janice spends a significant amount of time answering the phone; responding to requests; arranging travel for staff; collecting monies; preparing purchase orders; scheduling meetings, and recording minutes at faculty meetings. We are all impressed with her consistently positive attitude, and her diligence in helping both faculty and students! Her work ethic and leadership demonstrates an exceptional standard of service. She exhibits a pleasant and friendly personality that is a great asset to the department.
Janice has also been an active participant in the University Combined Charitable Appeal, where she has been a Unit Leader since 1991. She received the “Distinguished Volunteer Service Award” from the United Way of Penobscot Valley in 1992. She received the College of Engineering Leila C. Lowell Award in 1996, and an Award of Appreciation “In recognition of outstanding service to the community” from the Combined Charitable Appeal for University of Maine Employees in 1997.
