John Joaquin
Food Service Utility Worker
Auxiliary Services
When John retired, his coworkers couldn’t believe it! He has been with Black Bear Dining and the University of Maine for an incredibly long time—over 40 years! Everyone he worked with thought he was a fixture and a part of the York building.
The staff of York Commons misses John tremendously. They miss his sense of humor, which he kept well hidden, but everyone had come to know it was there lurking, just waiting to get out and get them to smile or laugh. He was reliable and they could count on his perseverance to do his job. He liked being around people and it was evident. Because of his people skills, he interacted well with his co-workers. He loved to talk ask “What are you doin’?” John worked alongside his brother, Larry, for years at York Commons.
John would love the spring when he could bring out his mountain bike. He also loved his early morning rides to work on his motor scooter. Even in retirement, he stays active riding his mountain bike.
John presence was special and touched all of his co-workers’ hearts. The University of Maine thanks you John, for your over 40 years of service to the University of Maine. Best wishes in your retirement.
