James Tardy
Building Events Coordinator
Facilities Management

In 1974 Jim Tardy joined the staff as a night Janitor within Neville Hall. His work ethic and cleaning skills pleasantly surprised the occupants, who praised him for cleaning the inside of cabinets and scrubbing the interior brick walls until they glowed. In fact, everywhere Jim has been assigned he received the same accolades for keeping the buildings clean, well cared for, and presentable.

In 1984 Jim was promoted to the Memorial Gym’s Head Janitor. That same year he received the Service to the University Award. His nomination stated he was one of the best janitors on campus and he received praise for his cooperative spirit and commitment to exceeding expectations.

Jim’s responsibilities continued to increase and in 1988 he was promoted to Building Events Coordinator. As usual, his work was regularly and highly praised. From building occupants to event participants, Jim received letters of appreciation citing his diligence in keeping the Gym clean and presentable. More than once the ROTC Commander thanked him for his work that helped create a positive impression during the Brigade Commander’s inspections.

Today, Jim still works above and beyond expectations with a positive attitude and cheerful disposition. His industriousness and orderliness are greatly appreciated and, he continues to enjoy the respect of co-workers, building occupants, superiors, subordinates and campus visitors.

Thank you, Jim, for being a dedicated employee who approaches your work with enthusiasm and good will. We appreciate all you do and look forward to having you with us for many years to come.

Congratulations, Jim, and best wishes on 35 years of service to the University of Maine!
