Associate Professor, School of Nursing
School of Nursing

Dr. Terry Shipps retired from the University of Maine School of Nursing after 20 years of dedicated service. Students and faculty alike benefited from Terry’s love of, and commitment to, the nursing profession. She infused her courses with respect for the values, knowledge, and complex skills that are required of expert nurses – creating excitement and pride in the nursing students. Terry provided important leadership within the School of Nursing and in state and national nursing organizations. Her 12 years as Director of the School was distinguished by fairness, continual advocacy for School resources, and promotion of the School within the University and the State.

Terry is a wonderful story-teller and this gift lifted spirits on many days. With gentle humor, her stories of family, home, and work led to good conversations and good companionship among her colleagues and students.

The School of Nursing is grateful for Terry’s warm collegiality and steady support. She is an expert on role theory and shared this useful perspective, facing challenges that arise in the classroom. Years later, her insights still serve them well.

Congratulations, Terry, on your retirement. The School of Nursing faculty, staff, and students send best wishes in the adventures that lie head for you and your family!
